This week's blog assignment: For your first comment on this class blog, please tell us about a motto or motivational phrase that keeps you going, some words of wisdom that you carry with you (literally or figuratively) as you walk through life. Where did these words come from and what do they mean to you?
Please write a coherent paragraph in response. I suggest that you first write your response in MSWord and then copy and paste it into the "comment" box on the blog. I look forward to reading what you write!
I am a wrestler and motivation is a huge part in keeping in shape or working hard. Whether it keeps me mentally or physically motivated. I like to tell myself every day that some one out there, anywhere, is working harder than me, and they have the same goals that I have. When I think that it motivates me to constantly improve strenth, technique, conditioning, and even cardio.
ReplyDeleteI am French and I love the quote/motto: c'est la vie. It means "such is life" or "that is life" and it's a very carefree motto, which I try to be as carefree as I can. It pretty much means that whatever happens in life you can't let it bother you and to just deal with whatever obstacle gets in your way because tomorrow is another day which could possibly be a lot better. I try not to let things stress me out in life and if something does, I just remind myself of this quote. It just motivates me to keep calm and carry on through whatever life throws my way.
ReplyDeleteBeing a sports fan I connect with the quote "you miss 100% of the shots you don't take" said by Wayne Gretzky the legendary hockey player. although this is directly a sports quote I feel this can be applied to life in general. Not taking risks or trying is the same, if not worse, than failure. In life you need to take chances and not everything is going to go your way but you always worth a try.
ReplyDeleteThe words of wisdom that I literally carry with me are, "No weapon formed against me shall prosper". These words originally come from a Bible passage. In life we continuously have "weapons", figuratively speaking, being formed against us daily. No matter what is being formed against us whether it be fear, doubt, lies, life circumstances, or situations we can't allow them to dictate our outlook on life. I hold these words close to me because they remind me daily that any opposing factors in my life can not succeed unless I allow them to. It's all about being a responsive person, rather than being a reactive one. And even more so about whether you choose to have the mentality of a victim or victor.

ReplyDeleteA quote that has stuck with me since the first time I read it in middle school is "If you're trying to achieve, there will be roadblocks. I've had them; everybody has had them. But obstacles don't have to stop you. If you run into a wall, don't turn around and give up. Figure out how to climb it, go through it, or work around it."- Michael Jordan. This always made me never want to give up because if I did, it means the wall has gotten the best of me and my dad always told me to make sure no one ever gets the best of you!
ReplyDelete“It will get better” – my adoring mom. My family has been through some serious troubles, and even though these words sound so simple they mean the most to me. Sometimes we all hit rock bottom and we think there’s no way out. I learned to go through the day with a smile and be optimistic, because sooner or later, it has to get better. Good things will come. The first time I took these words into consideration I realized before I knew it, things got better. I’ve kept this motto ever since.

ReplyDeleteI never really had a quote or motto I base my life on or think I about when I in despair or troubled. I have heard of many that I think are very inspirational and meaningful yet I haven't found one I can identify myself with or use in tragic moments in my life unfortunately. on a side note, my comments(this is the third time I'm posting this actually) are being posted with my YouTube account name instead of the account ive set up for this blog. sorry for the inconvenience and ill try to fix it. - Milton Basswerner
ReplyDeleteMy favorite motivational quote is "The more things that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you'll go" by Dr. Seuss. Without knowledge, you will never amount to anything. I'm not saying you have to be the smartest person in the world - but knowledge IS the key to success.
ReplyDeleteA quote that has always stuck with me is "remember who you are" which is said in The Lion King. When I was younger my Dad used to tell me that every single day as a reminder to never forget my roots or change anything about myself for the sake of others. To this day I still live by it and refuse to go against what I know or believe in for anyone else.
ReplyDeleteA quote that I always carry with me is “If you don’t laugh you’ll cry”. The reason behind this is because during my senior year of high school many stresses and frustrations came about in my life. While my friends and I were at a cheerleading practice one night, we just started laughing uncontrollably at something that really was not that funny. That is when I said to all of them “If you don’t laugh you’ll cry”. I am not sure if someone famous has said this before me, but this quote gets me through a lot especially in college.
ReplyDeleteA saying I always remember when I'm sad or upset about something is, "Live, Laugh, Love". I first heard this after my neighbor and her boyfriend broke up and I asked how she felt and she just told me "You go on living and eventually move on. You always have to remember to live, laugh, love." Ever since then every time I see it on a sign or anything I always remember that no matter what happens in life you have to keep living, you have to laugh or you won't have anything to look forward to, and you have to love in order to find love.
ReplyDeleteA quote that will forever stay with me and is very near and dear to my heart is by Aristotle that reads, "It is in our darkest moments that we must focus to see the light." All too often it is easy to lose focus and crumble upon hardships. When instead we should look for light in the darkest of places. After all , at the end of the tunnel there is always light waiting on the other side. I remember when I had just heard news that my sister had been subjected to the hospital. The doctors had said she was in critical condition and that they would do the best they could. But all I could do was cry in hysteria as I felt the sorrow around the room. All I could think was that this was it, that I was going to lose my sister and that I could do nothing to help. It was then when I looked to my Facebook page and had saw this quote posted on my timeline. With wide eyes, I read and re-read it over and over again. I felt like there was a reason that this quote was before me at that given moment. And with that I decided that my sister was going to be fine and that she would surpass her illness. I feel like everything happens for a reason, and there was a reason I saw that quote that day; it makes sense! It is in our darkest hours that we must focus, because then we will be able to think more clearly, respond more accuaratley, and retract our mines from the bad to shift it to the good. With that , it will be easier to find the light in anything. Not only with my sister but with every obstacle in my life, this quote will always stay with me.
ReplyDeleteA motivational quote that I think of in bad times, and in good would be “I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.” Philippians 4:13 I try to remember this on a daily basis. I have had many trying times in my life and knowing that anything is possible and then proving that is what keeps me going.
ReplyDeleteA motivational quote that helps me in times of doubt or fear is "The LORD is my light and my salvation; Whom shall I fear? The LORD is the defense of my life; Whom shall I dread?" Psalm 27:1 (The Holy Bible) This quote helps me through life because it reminds me that I am a daughter of God and that I have nothing to fear because he is always with me.
ReplyDeleteOne motto I like to go by is, "Old enough to know better, young enough to do it anyway." As a matter of fact this was also my senior quote in the yearbook. With all the stresses of work, school, and preparing for the real world I believe having fun and enjoying your life is just as equally important. We have all our lives dedicated to working and only a few young years to have fun before having to settle down in the real world.
ReplyDeleteThere was this hipster piece of crap band called Algernon Cadwallader once and they wrote a song called 'Motivational Song'. The main lyric is: "if [boop]ing up feels right, then [beep]it up," and you know what, it's pretty accurate. I tend to obsess over imperfections and fixing them and end up [bonk]ing myself over when things don't go how I'd like them to. The reality is not everything is going to be 100 percent perfect, nor is anything going to reach a point where maybe [blip]ing up a bit was so wrong, it's just a mistake or one little flaw and doesn't have to be the end of everything. It's not the ["Zoinks, Scoob!"]ing end of the world, if it feels good enough then do it.
ReplyDeleteThere is a saying, “beauty is in the eye of the beholder”. I find this quote very inspirational for personal reasons. I never saw myself as pretty or good-looking. I found this quote one day when I was assigned a project where we had to pick a quote and explain the meaning behind it. I looked it over and I realized just how true this was. Beauty is different for every person. There is no true meaning of beauty. You’re only as beautiful as you see yourself. Nobody but yourself can tell you whether or not you’re beautiful. This changed the way I looked at myself. As long as I’m ok with the way I look then nothing anyone else says matters.
ReplyDeleteThe only phrase that I can think of that I hear almost daily, but has such meaning to me is, "It could be worse." It doesn't mean nearly as much to me unless I hear those words from my father. Who always said "it could be worse" in almost any situation. Serving 24 years in the military, he literally knows what it feels like to be in more worse situations than I do. These few words can really help me analyze what is in front of me, and help me understand that eventually, everything will be ok. Just keep moving forward.
